November is Warrior Care Month

November is Warrior Care Month. It was established in 2008 “to increase awareness of programs and resources available to wounded, ill, and injured service members, their families, and those who care for them.” The Department of Defense was tasked to “continue to make it easier for our troops and their families to take advantage of all the assistance now available to them.”

Navy Wounded Warrior’s motto is Numquam Navigare Solus, Never to Sail Alone. The Navy lives its values of honor, courage and commitment when caring for wounded, ill and injured service members and their families and caregivers.

About Navy Wounded Warrior

Navy Wounded Warrior is the Navy’s official support program for Sailors and Coast Guardsmen of all ranks who have been wounded in combat or injured in the line of duty or on liberty, such as in a fall or a motorcycle accident. We also aid those dealing with serious physical or psychological illnesses, such as cancer or PTSD.

Navy Wounded Warrior serves as an unbiased advocate to bridge the needs of commands, medical care teams, and service members in planning a way forward. Our non-medical care providers have tailored support for tens of thousands of Sailors and Coastguardsmen, along with their families and caregivers, to create comprehensive plans for the service members’ recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration back to active duty or into the community.

Maintaining the gold standard for non-medical care, Navy Wounded Warrior offers resources for education and employment initiatives, adaptive recoditioning programs, and family and caregiver tools, as well as other offerings that promote healing and opportunities for success, both within and beyond military service. Coordinating non-medical care enables service members to focus on their recovery goals and well-being, encourages retention and return to duty, and supports a smooth transition to the VA when a condition prohibits continued service.

We're Here to Help

Service members can self-refer to Navy Wounded Warrior. Family, friends, chaplains, command leadership, medical providers, and  members are often the best advocates and can directly refer their Sailors and Coast Guardsmen, too. Contact the Navy Wounded Warrior call center at 855-NAVY WWP (855-628-9997) or send an email to navywoundedwarrior.fct@navy.mil to get started.
