WASHINGTON -- LTJG George Driscoll was selected as the Navy Wounded Warrior of the Month by Navy Region Southwest for April 2021.

Nominated by his Non-Medical Care Manager, LT Marissa George, Driscoll has been enrolled with Navy Wounded Warrior since 2019.

After an accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury, Driscoll was told it would be a year before he could have his final surgery and be discharged from the hospital. “I was told that my dream of being a career Naval Officer and of one day being an attorney was probably not going to materialize given the severity of my brain injury,” said LTJG Driscoll.

Driscoll continued, “Hard work, a dedicated medical team and family, and the Navy Wounded Warrior program allowed me to rehab unusually quick and receive my final surgery in four months as opposed to the advertised year. I then completed outpatient rehab and reported to Navy Operational Support Center Alameda where I continue to serve today.”

During his time with Navy Wounded Warrior, Driscoll has overcome many obstacles outside of his rehabilitation, to include applying and deferring admission to St. John’s School of Law, serving as an individual augmentee to the United Nations command in Korea, and continuing to serve at Navy Operational Support Center Alameda, CA.

Driscoll acknowledged the role Navy Wounded Warrior has played in his recovery and being able to stay in the Navy. “There were many moving parts that allowed me to get where I am today. LT George was and continues to be there whenever I needed anything, from arranging for loved ones to visit me in the hospital to connecting me with people to help me stay in the Navy. I couldn’t be more thankful!”

Navy Wounded Warrior is the Navy’s sole organization for coordinating the non-medical care of seriously wounded, ill and injured Sailors and Coast Guardsmen and providing resources and support to their families. Through proactive leadership, the program provides individually-tailored assistance designed to optimize the success of the wounded warriors’ recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration activities.
